Model Weights

Model weights are the internal numbers a neural network adjusts during training. They are not human-readable copies of source works.

Courts have not settled whether model weights themselves constitute infringing copies of training works, or whether they are sufficiently transformed to avoid direct reproduction claims.

Disputes ask whether retaining weights trained on infringing copies perpetuates infringement or creates a non-expressive derivative artifact.
